About Lincoln School of Early Learning

Lincoln School of Early Learning is a Reading First School. Reading First programs provide each child with 90 minutes of uninterrupted reading each morning (kindergarten 45 minutes). For students that need more help, we will be giving a “double dose” of reading during the day. Your child may have another teacher for reading.

The program is very specific and states there will be No interruptions during a 90-minute period, scheduled each morning. For this reason we ask you to work with us to keep this time interruption free. This means, having children here on time and scheduling appointments around our reading time.

We are excited about our program and all the great success children will experience in reading. Our goal is to have all children reading by the end of third grade. We know with your help, together we can achieve this goal. Working together will make the difference.

Have a great summer!

School Supply List for the 2018-2019 school year here!

Governor Kitzhaber announced the launch of the Statewide Literacy Campaign, stORytime. The campaign was developed to build awareness for the impact early literacy has on lifelong success and intended to galvanize communities across Oregon to come together to support families in ensuring students are proficient readers by 3rd grade.  Students reading by third grade are four times less likely to drop out of high school; in fact it is one of the single greatest predictor of life-long success.

As featured on the South Coast!

There are three critical ways that you can support this important initiative:

  • Spread the word: Families need to regularly see information about how easy it is to find opportunities to teach their children vocabulary and build literacy skills in every day life.  Spreading the word can best be done through our partners: businesses, libraries and non-profits like yours who interact with families every day.  The stORytime website has a partner page you can demonstrate your commitment to supporting students by becoming a stORytime partner.  There you can download materials to keep in your offices/stores including posters, bookmarks, activity sheets and videos that demonstrate how every day moments (grocery shopping, cooking, driving in a car, taking a walk, singing, playing) can become learning moments.

  • Donate Books to Students on the South Coast: In partnership with Umpqua Bank, the Oregon PTA and Scholastic, the stORytime website includes a Book Donation Portal where Oregonians can donate books to an elementary or K-8 school of their choice. As part of its partnership with the program, Umpqua Bank will be matching the first 40,000 donated books with a grant of up to $100,000 from the Umpqua Bank Charitable Foundation.

The kickoff event at Southwestern Oregon Community College was a success! Please read this article published by The World and featured on the stORytime website here.
